FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Pile Burns Planned for Turkey Springs Area

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colorado – OCTOBER 26, 2017 – The Pagosa Ranger District plans to burn approximately 400 slash piles once the snow starts throughout the end of the year in the Turkey Springs area northwest of Pagosa Springs. Piles to be burned consist of slash thinned from hazardous fuels reduction projects. This effort is part of a larger project involving prescribed fire, mechanical thinning and mowing in the Turkey Springs/Brockover Mesa areas. An additional slash pile at the Forest Service Work Center on Piedra Road will also be burned. Pile burning will take place only when there is sufficient snow on the ground to keep flames contained.
